My three mile (each way) walk to work in Omaha was different each time. I made the trip by foot most workdays for a couple of years until I remembered that bicycles can be used to get places. What I gained in speed, I lost in detail. I saw more when walking. I was more likely to stop. Sometimes I brought my camera.
Also, I will never forget my walks in the rain. I realized I didn’t need to stay dry. I bathed at work and could dry off at home. Instead of an umbrella, I started wearing baggy swim shorts, a poly sport shirt, Tevas and a cap. Splashing through puddles at 35 years of age on your way to work felt like cheating.
